Food Aid 2022 Concert Battles Hunger July 22 to 23

By Laurie Casey

According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap Study, one in seven people in Cook County will experience food insecurity this year. Want to do something? Come out to “Food Aid,” a two-day music festival July 22-23 to enjoy local bands and tackle food insecurity in Oak Park and surrounding communities. The weekend promises to be full of fun, as well as helping fill people’s tummies with nourishing food.

Food Aid's mission is to prevent hunger by raising money through music and entertainment events. Beneficiaries of the proceeds will go to Unity Fridges, Beyond Hunger, A House In Austin, Austin Coming Together and Westchester Food Pantry.

“With music as our inspiration and everyday, working-class people our heroes, Food Aid envisions a transformed America in which no one person experiences hunger and every person has access to fresh and healthy food,” says Anthony Clark, Director of Suburban Unity Alliance, and one of the event’s organizers.

“Any neighbor invested in the health of their community hopefully recognizes the negative, interconnected impact food insecurity has on that community– from the family with an empty fridge to the impact on sustainability,” he added. “Food insecurity not only causes suffering and poor health, it also slows progress in many other areas of development, like education and employment.”
